Access Statement

Introduction

The en-suite rooms at Foxholm are housed in a single story barn attached to our spacious bungalow. Access is straightforward, once the small step (4.5”) has been negotiated guest accommodation is all on the ground floor.

Before you arrive

Guests not travelling by car can be picked up by prior arrangements from Seamer or Scarborough stations or from bus stops in Brompton-by-Sawdon, Sherburn or central Scarborough.

The nearest bus stop to Foxholm is in Brompton, on the A170 approx 1.5 miles from Sawdon. The 128 bus runs from Scarborough via Seamer, time table and route information can be found at http://www.eyms.co.uk.

On Arrival

There is a private off road parking on the gravelled area inside the gate. The paved path is arranged so that either side of a car can be drawn up to allow either passenger or driver to transfer from the car to wheelchair and to the house without needing to manoeuvre on the loose stones.

Access through the front door (32”, 830cms wide) is via a single step 4.75 (12cms) high. External and internal doorways are all at least 32” (83cms) wide.

The Accommodation

There are no steps or stairs within the bungalow. From the spacious hall (loop pile carpet surrounded by wooden floor) there is a 32” (83cm) wide door into the guest lounge. The bedrooms lead directly off the lounge. The en-suite bathrooms have tiled floors, the bedrooms and guest lounge floors have loop-piled carpet.

Guest Lounge

The lounge has a sofa, seating three people, two upholstered arm chairs, a stool and upright chair. The shelving unit houses a Bose Radio and CD player and LCD TV with Freeview and DVD. Doors from the lounge into the bedrooms are 32” (83cm) wide.

Sleeping accommodation

There are two bedrooms, each with a king-sized bed, In Mara the bed has an approachable gap of 37”,( 94cm) with a space of at least 31” (79cms) at its foot. In Samburu the approachable gap is at least 29” (74cms) and the space at the foot is 34” (86.5cms).

The en-suite shower rooms have tiled floors and part-tiled walls with 30”, (76cmc) wide shower trays with a 6.5” (17cms) step. The glazed door gives 21” (53.5cms) wide access. The shower mixer is thermostatically controlled and the shower head height is adjustable. The WC seats are 17” (43cms) high and there is a gap of 21.5” (57cms) between the toilet and cupboard doors to the right, in Mara and a gap of 17” (44cms) to the left to the partial obstruction presented by the basin. (The measurements in the mirror-image en-suite to Samburu are the same, but reversed; cupboard door to left, basin to right).

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the conservatory where tables are 39” (99cms) square’ with legs at the corners. Clearance underneath is 26” (66cms) high with 30.5” (76cms) between the legs. Overhang on the table is 31/2” (9.5cms). The gaps around the tables are adjustable between 33” (84cms) and 36” (91cms)).

If the weather is very cold breakfast may be served in the dining room. The table is 29” (74cms) high and has a central pedestal giving an overhang of 19.5” (50cms) There is church pew seating down one side, gaps around on the other sides are between 40” (102cms) and 48” (202cms).

The Gardens

The front garden, down 4.75” (12cms) step from the front door has planted troughs and flower beds and a metal bench and a small table with two chairs that can be reached over paved paths without steps.

The rear garden may be accessed from the lounge through a 37” (94cms) wide door, with a 2” (5cms) lip via two steps 4” (10cms) and 7” (18cms) high. Alternative access, onto a small paved patio, is from the entrance hall via a sliding patio door 24” (61cms) wide with 6” (15cms) high lip. Paths around the rear garden are mainly pebbled.
